Deepika Padukone is the fittest star in Bollywood: Govinda

http://www.siliconeer.com/past_issues/2007/march2007/GUFT-govinda.jpg
Q. You have been for a long time now in Bollywood. Which were your best days of your professional career?
A. Starting from Shola Aur Shabnam to 1997 released film Bade Miya Chote Miya, was the best period of my life as during that period I did some good roles and that too with innocence.

Q. Now too the innocence in visible in the roles you play. How do you manage to treasure that innocence?
A. As one takes care of his/her house so that it looks attractive to him/her as well as others. Likewise one should also make sure to regularly clean his/her mind thinking of Saraswati Maata. I also do the same thing.

Q. Now-a-days you are known to divert your attention more towards spiritualism; any special reason behind it?
A. I am moving towards spiritualism due to my mother. For the start, I was very hot-tempered and had to indulge in fights. But once I got inspired by my mother’s teachings and became her student, life changed for me. I learnt a lot of good things from my mother. At the same time I learnt that those who are hot tempered get to meet people who are much more hot tempered than him/her.

Q. At the start of your career you portrayed a lot of serious characters. But since around ten years you are mostly seen in comedy flicks. Why?
A. Frankly speaking, I was tired of portraying serious roles. I started working in the industry when I was 21 years old. Before that, since I was fourteen I have to help my mother in household works like, sweeping, washing clothes, etc. I have worked a lot throughout my life. Due to this I started going through a lot of stress and comedy brought a new freshness in my life.

Q. How do you manage a brilliant timing in comedy with your co-stars which off course is a very important aspect in comedy?
A. See, in comedy more than an actor, a director has to be good in his work. If the director is good then you can even succeed in doing a comedy act with a lamppost.

Q. Amongst all the comedy flicks you have worked in until now, who has been your favourite co-star?
A. I have enjoyed working with all the stars whether he is Kader Khan, Anupam Kher, Satish Kaushik, Satish Shah, Chunky Pandey, Shakti Kapoor or even Karishma Kapoor. Whoever works with me always gives their 100 percent. Even my recent pairing with Salman Khan was appreciated by the viewers.

Q. Which film would you rate the best amongst the various movies you have done under the direction of David Dhawan?
A. My favourite films are Deewana Mastana and Swarg.

Q. Which has been the toughest character to play in your career?
A. I haven’t got any of such character yet.

Q. When would we see you acting in a serious cinema?
A. Not until I am satisfied that the film is going to be a super hit.

Q. There is known to be two comedy schools in Bollywood now-a-days; one run by Priyadarshan whereas other by David Dhawan. How would you differentiate between the two?
A. (laughs) See, the cheque that one gets from both the sides is the same. Their faces too match with each other. To be frank, when it comes to comedy cinema, South always has an upper hand. Even the films David has made have been inspired by South movies. The only difference has been in the way the script has been treated.

Q. Which is your favourite comedy scene?
A. I love watching all the scenes from Dilip Kumar starrer Kohinoor and Ram Aur Shyam.

Q. Whom would you name your three all time favourite stars?
A. Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra. Dilip Kumar is such an institute of acting that anyone who copies him can become a superstar. Dhramendra is my favourite hero and I have got a lot of respect for Amitabh Bachchan. Even today he is very active as an actor. It wouldn’t be wrong to call him the gem of India.

Q. Have you ever copied anyone?
A. I copy everyone. From whomsoever I get the right energy, I copy from there.

Q. Today you have got everything. Any such thing which you still desire for?
A. I haven’t got anything yet. Infact I think that I have just started my career.

Q. It’s been said that the people who do comedy are very happy in life. What do you have to say about the same?
A. It’s very true. But some times you come across some kind of people who joke about your happiness and then you have to show him some of your punches. It’s good to be nice and happy but only till someone else doesn’t use your nature in a wrong way.

Q. According to you, who are the fittest actor and actress in Bollywood?
A. Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone are the fittest stars in Bollywood. Even Akshay Kumar is very fit but Amitabhji being my favourite; I would like to give him extra marks.

Potter bosses sue Bollywood film

http://us.movies1.yimg.com/movies.yahoo.com/images/hv/photo/movie_pix/warner_brothers/harry_potter_and_the_goblet_of_fire/harrypotterandthegobletoffire_bigteaser.jpg

A wizard of a row has broken out over a Bollywood film whose title sounds a bit like Harry Potter.

The makers of Hari Puttar: A Comedy of Terrors are being taken to court by the studio behind the Potter films.

Warner Bros say the film's name is too similar to the blockbusters featuring the boy wizard.

The Indian makers say the Hindi-language film is nothing to do with Harry Potter, but instead about a boy called Hari who's left home alone.

They say the title comes from Hari, which is a common name in India and puttar is Punjabi for a son.

Warner Bros is trying to stop the film from coming out in India, which is supposed to happen on 12 September.

SRK, Aamir, Akki to clash on Christmas?

http://www.khaleejtimes.ae/images/akshay_061120007.jpg
Last year, the Christmas week witnessed the release of 'Welcome' and 'Taare Zameen Par'. Both diametrically opposite films in terms of genre worked big time at the box-office. The films in question also cemented the status of the two stars associated with those films -- Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan.
Now Akshay and Aamir are all set to clash all over again. And it's Christmas time yet again. Aamir's 'Ghajini' is already confirmed for this date and if sources are to be believed, Akshay's 'Chandni Chowk To China' is also eyeing the Christmas week.
http://www.moviewalah.com/files/Image/aamir-khan-ghajini.jpg

"Yes, we're looking at the date. But right now we are more concerned about the right chain of theatres, since 'Ghajini' is also arriving on this date. Plus, 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi' [releasing on December 12] would also be retaining many screens. We've asked Warner Bros. [partners in 'Chandni Chowk To China'] to get back to us about it. Only after they are clear vis-à-vis the screens will we take a call," Nikhil Advani tells us.

'SRK's a great guy, so’s Hrithik’

http://www.gobollywood.com/pictures/srk-hrithik.jpg
Ramp scorcher, heartbreaker, film producer, doting dad, loving husband and actor. Sounds too many words for one man?

Believe it those words are best suited to describe Arjun Rampal. From being a dashing goodlooker who would make women make catcalls at him when he strutted his stuff on the runway to the sober, mellowed down actor, Arjun’s sure come a long way.

His filmi trek might have had some interruptions and some films turning out to be commercial letdowns, but life’s rocking after his negative role in Om Shanti Om. Finally, this will be an year when he has two new films to flaunt: Rock On !! and The Last Lear .
TOI caught him in a relaxed mood.

“Life’s a rock party. I have been into rock music since childhood. That’s because my father was into music. I have always enjoyed listening to Beatles, Pink Floyd, Bob Marley. Slowly I started developing my own taste and started listening to alternative music. For my new film, I even learnt the guitar.”

Model mission

Even now, after so many years of being an actor, I’m still haunted by insensitive questions like, ‘Can models act’. Of course they can. It hurts when sometimes people make this snap judgement. Every model who wants to be an actor is here to do his best. This is like asking a long jumper, can he run! Thanks to Om Shanti Om, I am in a position where I can afford to choose my work.

Buddy, buddy batein

I know some people like to speculate even about my friendship with Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan? What about it? We are just friends like normal people. In fact, I don’t like talking about my friendships and personal life at all! The minute we start talking about our friendships, some controversy is created somewhere. So it’s better to steer clear of commenting about friends. Harmless statements can get blown out of proportion. Having said that, I have to say, Shah Rukh and I do go a long way.We are both from Delhi and we got to know each other better during the making of Don-The Chase Begins and the Temptations tour. Shah’s a great guy and so is Hrithik. And yes, both are good friends.

Producing dreams

I think I failed as a producer. I See You did not do well because we failed to create enough buzz about the film. Marketing a film well and creating hype are important. We will have to be more cautious now.

Male casting couch

We are asked about the casting couch billions of times. Let me tell you, that I never succumbed to any such pressures. Success doesn’t come easy, so obviously like the female casting couch there is a male casting couch!

Daddy cool

I feel blessed to have two daughters who mean the world to me. My little one is three and the older one is six. It feels great to enjoy their childhood!

Bol Bollywood

I would truly like to be part of films, which take entertainment to a new level. I know I have a long way to go so far as acting is concerned, but it will be great, if I am able to bring in some alignment in the kind of work that is done in Bollywood.

Akshay to set the ramp on fire

http://www.bollywoodblog.com/images/TN11371_1a_Akshay_R.jpg
Akshay Kumar is giving tough competition to everyone in Bollywood these days with every film of his going on to become box office hits.

And now he is going to be giving sleepless nights to the models in the city. The khiladi who has just shot for a sizzling commercial with American supermodel Saira S will be walking the ramp in Mumbai tomorrow along with hot international models.

According to sources, the actor has been taking keen interest in the whole show and has been rehearsing for the same. He wanted curvaceous models to accompany him on the ramp, informs the source.

Marc Robinson who is the fashion director for the event, says, “Akshay Kumar has been actively involved in all discussions for the Fashion . One rarely gets to see this kind of enthusiasm. We are calling international hot looking models. Akshay will be the only male model and would walk the ramp with the rest.”

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar does a Salman Khan on ramp

http://www.bollynewz.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/akshay-kumar-1.jpg
MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar sizzled ramp here last evening for a leading apparel maker, with Salman Khan-like bare chest.

The prolific actor, who is known for his on-screen stunts and comedy , walked the ramp with bare torso showing his physique along with the apparel he was suppose to display before an avid audience.

He also revealed the secret behind his success.

"To me, the secret behind becoming successful is very simple. I have personally experienced that the care one extends to his or her parents leads to success," said Kumar.

Akshay Kumar has recently been part of many successful Bollywood films and has also hosted a reality show on television "Khatron ke Khiladi".

Kareena reveals all!

http://www.bollywoodgossips.net/photos/albums/userpics/10001/normal_kareena62.jpg
I don’t know when last you saw her, but I did on Sunday, from spitting distance in her vanity van at Mehboob Studios.

And never mind size zero, Kareena Kapoor is a dreamboat of a woman, all smouldering sexuality, honest emotions and sensuous curves. Besides, of course, being God’s gift to Saif Ali Khan. I hope he knows this, because she is crazy about him.

“He’s my best friend,” she told me. “Being lovers is easy, but remaining friends is tough.” That kind of honesty is hard to come by anywhere; in Bollywood — don’t ask! But I did. What was it that she looked for in her man? Was it sex? Companionship? Or did she require a man in her life 24/7 and so moved from one relationship to another? Kareena pouted, “Friendship first, and then love. Saif and I were friends right through Tashan. After that, we became lovers. Jab We Met was before I met Saif. I thought, if he can be my best friend, and be such a wonderful father to his kids, the rest will just follow.”

But, given his past, wasn’t it true that while he might be a great lover, he was lousy as a husband? “There’s no such thing as any man being perfect husband material,” she shot back, “the most stable guys make awful husbands. In Saif’s case, I followed my heart and instinct; that always make me happy, especially when I sleep at night. When you follow only your head, you end up frustrated.”

She has, I must admit, the courage of her convictions. How many actresses at the top of their careers have been honest about their relationships to their family, fans, the media? None that I can think of. Did she not fear that sometimes people might tend to forget she is Bollywood’s No 1 actress and think of her only as the woman in Saif’s life?

“By being honest and coming clean, I can hold my head high,” Kareena replied. Not a trace of irritation at the bluntness of my questions. I pushed further. If he was unwilling to commit to marriage, would she care to have a child out of wedlock with Saif? A love child? “No,” she said firmly, “I’m open about my relationship, but traditional in my values. Saif thinks I’m the most conservative and traditional woman he has known. I tell him, if you have a problem with that, then go be with someone else!”

Was there any other man who turned her on more? “Apart from Saif, nobody else... But Leo (di Caprio), oh God, he’s unnaturally good looking, he’s hot and also intelligent. I’d enjoy his company,” she said brightly. Enough to if the opportunity came up, have a fling with him? “I’m traditional,” she reminded me, “I won’t have a fling.”

But this is not all about Saif only, and the love life between Kareena and him, we talked films as well. She’s got a fascinating fistful at the moment. There’s Kambakth Ishq with Akshay, Idiot with Aamir, Mr Aur Mrs Khanna with Salman, Golmal Returns with Ajay, and she’s doing Karan Johar’s next film (“It’s untitled and it’s based on terrorism,” she revealed) with Saif. “I’ve chosen the right roles in all of them,” she said with a look of smug satisfaction. Who was her favourite co-star?

Kareena hummed and hawed a bit, then came up with, “Akshay, it’s so strange, I’ve done more films with him than Saif. Akshay and I look nice together, I share a comfort level with him, an emotional bond. But I’ve always wanted to do a film with Aamir. And one with Shah Rukh Khan. I’ve not done a love story with Shah Rukh. I was in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham with him, but opposite Hrithik.”

She being the Queen of Bollywood, did her heroes treat her as being on par, or... ? “Bollywood is male dominated,” she admitted, “but they are a little partial towards me. All of them have worked with my sister. And from way back then, they have treated me like a kid.” Did she, as a kid, have fantasies about any of these male hunks who were her sister’s co-stars, I asked. “All of them,” Kareena replied without batting an eye.

Talking of male hunks, would she do a film with her cousin Ranbir Kapoor, play his lover on screen? The eyebrows shot up, she laughed without embarrassment, “I don’t think so, and it would be my loss, because Ranbir is fantastic, he’s a brilliant actor. It’s so in his blood, he’s natural on screen. But I don’t know. Maybe Ranbir and I should do a film. Act as friends, perhaps brother and sister, but as lovers... maybe if the audience wants to see us that way. He’s hot and good looking, the best in the family, and I like interesting and different roles, I like taking risks, I’m ready to experiment. Jab We Met was different from Omkara. But I’m hopeful some director will write a film for me. I’d like to do a film like Erin Brockovich. Or be like Meryl Streep in Devil Wears Prada. I hope, at that age, I too have that fire in me that she has.” That the fire is raging in her at 28, there is no doubt.

She’s at the top of her career, she’s getting a film a day, she believes 24 hours is not enough even if she is facing the camera till 2 am, she’s been open and honest about her relationship and still maintained her popularity, films are her life — “I live, eat, breathe, drink films, often Saif and I slip into suburban multiplexes to enjoy films over a carton of popcorn.” Popcorn, I asked. “Yes, I love to eat, I have never been overweight, I’m fit and healthy, always slim. I don’t know what is it about size zero!”

Sonam avoids Ranbir Kapoor

http://images.bollywoodhungama.com/memories/07/ranbirwithstars/still2.jpg

She doesn't want to work with her former boyfriend

Although “Saawariya” flopped, the chemistry between its lead pair - Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor - was noticed by everyone.

Many filmmakers have been keen to get the couple together but it seems Sonam is in no mood to work with Ranbir.

It’s a well known secret that Ranbir and Sonam were dating when the film released. However, Ranbir later dumped Sonam to hook up with Deepika, something which Sonam did not take very kindly.

In no mood to forgive, post their breakup though she maintained a dignified silence, she decided never to work with Ranbir again.

Recently, Sonam refused a film opposite Ranbir, to be made by Ranbir's friend Vicky Singh who is Farhan Akhtar's former assistant.

Ranbir kapoor plans to direct a film

http://nowrunning.com/wallpapers/main/Ranbir%20Kapoor_1_1024x768.jpg
Two films old only, and he wants to take up direction already to revive his grandfather’s R K Films’ flagging banner.

And, if newcomer Ranbir Kapoor is to be believed, he would have taken up a home production earlier, only he had already accepted a lot of acting work outside. “My plan got delayed, but now I’m working on it,” Ranbir told BT with an air of bravado. “Things will fall into place very shortly. I’ll star in the film and direct it. Is that too much responsibility?” Yes, it certainly is! “But I don’t think so,” argued Neetu and Rishi Kapoor’s son. “I’m passionate about being a director. I’ve lots to say. And I hope audiences accept me as a director as much as they have as an actor.”

Raj Kapoor would love his enthusiasm. For Ranbir is clear that his home production will be a celebration of cinema. “It will bring a smile to the face, a tear to the eye, that RK Films was famous for,” he promised. But Papa Rishi might not find a spot in it. “We get lots of offers to act together, and I’d love to share camera space with him, but Dad’s busy with several acting assignments,” Ranbir revealed.

Comparisons with Rishi, that Prince of Romance in the action era of angry young man Amitabh Bachchan and he-man Dharmendra, are unavoidable. But Ranbir said, “I’m not making a conscious effort to walk in my father’s footsteps, though he’s my favourite actor and I don’t mind being compared with him. But I don’t act or dance like him, I want to be myself on screen.”

He talked about his latest (and second only) release. His role, apparently, was written with Shah Rukh Khan in mind. “Aditya Chopra had the script for some time,” admitted Ranbir. “When the role was offered to me, I grabbed it, I wanted to be part of something that was so young, so today.” Not to mention, the chance to work with Bipasha, Minissha and Deepika. “In Saawariyan, I didn’t get the girl, so God made up for that,” he joked. Who was he best with on screen? “I cringe when I see myself on screen, so I avoid looking, but people have liked my rapport with Bipasha,” he said. Yes, there was also a role for Katrina Kaif in the film, but her character apparently was omitted from the final script. Does he regret that? “Why should I,” Ranbir asked, “I’ll have plenty of other opportunities to work with Katrina.”

Meanwhile, he’s got Ayaan Mukherjee’s Wake Up Sid to look forward to. Shooting begins in October and is slated to wind up by January. Ranbir is happy to co-star with the sultry Konkana Sensharma. (“She’s effortless, just to hang around her is an honour!”) And he’s got films by Raj Kumar Santoshi, Shimit Amin and Prakash Jha on hand. “I’m listening to one script every day. But my aim is not superstardom. My target is to achieve what my grandfather did,” he said. Raj Kapoor must also be proud... and hopeful.

Ranbir: Bollywood's new hearthrob

http://im.sify.com/entertainment/movies/images/mar2008/Ranbir_Kapoor_smiling_small.jpg
Teeny boppers are not the only ones who are swooning over his infectious smile, in fact the trade pundits have also stood up and given Ranbir Raj Kapoor a thumbs up after the success of Bachchna Ae Haseeno.

Kapoor Junior has proved that he is indeed a chip off the old block.

Ranbir has already signed the dotted line for Karan Johar, Raj Kumar Santoshi and Prakash Jha's porjects and rumours have it that ace director Mani Ratnam has also approached the Kapoor boy for his next film.

Though the filmmaker is not willing to comment it seems Ranbir Raj Kapoor has made a lasting impression.

Despite the fact that his debut film Saawariya failed to make any impression at the Box Office last year, the Kapoor lad had won rave reviews for his acting and swept all the major awards.

It seems Ranbir is the new kid to watchout for in Bollywood.

Saif Ali Khan And Kareena Kapoor grilled by media

http://www.inewsindia.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/saif-kareena.JPG
After being cancelled twice, it’s finally happening. Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor arrived in Dubai on Wednesday for Jashn 2008, their first ever stage show together, to be held at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on August 21.

The hot Bollywood couple looked very much in love, holding hands under the table and exchanging loving glances during a press conference held on August 20 at the Intercontinental Hotel, Dubai Festival City.

Saif may not be a cricketer like his father but he bowled the local media over with his classy sense of humour and deftly fielded some very uncomfortable questions with panache. In fact, he did all the talking, speaking on behalf of Kareena and protecting her from some rather distasteful personal questions, while his lady love was content to smile and avoided taking the mike even when questions were addressed to her.

The stars arrived an hour late for the press conference, but to his credit, Saif apologised sincerely and assured the media that he was open to answering anything within reason – and he did. The chote Nawab kept his cool, even when he was asked impolite questions such as the child custody arrangements between him and ex-wife Amrita.

When Kareena was asked if she is getting close to Shahid again, Saif immediately responded that she would not answer such personal questions. But when he was asked what birthday gift he got from Kareena, he thought for a long time before saying that she gave him the beautiful watch he was wearing.

Here’s what Saif (and on two occasions Kareena) had to say about the show and their future plans:

Do you have concerns about performing at an open air venue in this weather?

Saif:
Whose sweat are you more concerned about – mine or hers?

Kareena: I have lived in Mumbai all my life and I am used to hot weather. I actually prefer the heat to the cold.

Have you bought any property in Dubai?

Saif:
No, but we are always open to being gifted one for free.

Do you have any investments in Dubai?

Saif:
None - except our fans.

How important is it for you to perform at stage shows?

Saif:
Our job includes doing films, endorsements and stage shows. That is how we earn our living and that is why we are in Dubai today.

What are the dream characters that both of you would like to play?

Saif:
I have stopped thinking about that and base my choices on the scripts that are offered to me. I think the classics that I have grown up watching should stay classics. I cannot imagine myself in the place of great actors like Dilip Kumar. I would rather create something fresh than do a remake of another film.

Is there ever a clash between your profession and your duties towards your family’s heritage?

Saif:
You make me sound like a museum. There is no problem in terms of the family as my mother is an actress too. And I have no estate to run - my princely duties have been abolished long ago.

Do you have plans for marriage?

Saif:
Of course. My intentions are honourable and marriage is the logical conclusion to our relationship. But right now we are both focussed on our careers and it is difficult enough to get a weekend together.

What kind of films do you want to make with your production house? Can we expect to see you do another Omkara like character?

Saif:
I want to make all kinds of films from horror stories and thrillers to popcorn love stories and action movies. The idea is to make films that are tasteful, classy and enjoyable. A role like ‘Omkara’ is rare, but it would be great to do something like that again.

How involved is Kareena with your production house?

Saif:
She is involved with me and hence in my projects. I do rely tremendously on her expertise and fine creative mind and I wish she will lend us her talent if and when we need it.

Do you have any plans to do co-productions with RK Studios?

Saif:
That is a nice thought, though they are an old and established banner and I don’t think they need us.

Is your son going to follow in your footsteps?

Saif:
Why not - this is a wonderful profession. He is a good looking guy and he is very interested not only in acting but in direction and the process of film making. But this is also a tough profession and not everyone can do it. We will wait and see if he can.

What is your next film with Kareena?

Saif:
We are working together in Karan Johar’s next film. It is a topical thriller that will be shot in New York.

What can we expect at Jashn 2008?

Saif:
Thank God, finally a relevant question. Both of us will dance to our hit numbers. I will perform to songs from ‘Salaam Namastey’, ‘Hum Tum’, ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ and ‘Race’ and will also play the guitar. We want to keep the numbers we do together a surprise.

How do you feel about performing at a time when there is economic and political strife in the world and this region?

Saif:
There is always a crisis and there is always a reason to be happy. The great thing about our job is that it is not political and it is truly democratic- it is just about people enjoying themselves. Here you have this most beautiful woman in our country who will put on beautiful clothes and dance for you. And I will try to do the same in different clothes. And if we can put a smile on someone’s face that is not a small thing.

Are you teaching Kareena how to play the guitar?

Saif:
I am not good enough to teach anyone, even though I started learning when I was in school and should have been better at it than I am. But she has just whispered to me that she would like me to teach her.

Do you think Bollywood films have declined since the 70’s?

Kareena:
No, I think Indian cinema is moving forward. Today audiences want a good story with substance and the heroine also has a role to perform rather than just singing and dancing.

Haseeno aur Deewano - Ranbir and Bipasha

http://www.sawf.org/Newsphotos/Bollywood/DhanDhanaDhanGoal/JohnBipasha23Nov2007A.JPG
A strange sighting of the week was Ranbir Kapoor and hold your breath - Bipasha Basu. They both were spotted together without their respective partners Deepika Padukone and John Abraham. The venue was Saif Ali Khan's birthday party hosted by Kareena Kapoor.

The lead pair of Bachna Ae Haseeno drove down together for Saif's party, raising many eyebrows. "We were pleasantly surprised when they came together for the party," says an actor on condition of anonymity. We wonder why John and Deepika were not present, or were they just not invited!

Acting’s not only about glory

http://ranbir-kapoor.org/RanbirKapoor9m_jpg.jpe
In the entertainment business it doesn’t take long to go from high to hai hai.

So many of the mighty have fallen in one blow. Like Kumar Gaurav. He was the first of many star sons to be launched in style. Gaurav started with a bang in Love Story. I still remember the serpentine queues.

In college we had to return thrice from the theatre before getting tickets. Side by side Gaurav’s dad Rajendra Kumar’s colleague Sunil Dutt launched his beta in Rocky. And, that didn’t do so well. But, Sanjay Dutt emerged as one of the hottest stars of the post-Bachchan era. His brother-in-law Gaurav got left behind. Sad.

Sadder still is the way talent in our industry is equated with pedigree. Admittedly not all star-sons become overnight successes. Raj Babbar’s Arya, producers Raj Kumar Kohli and Keshu Ramsay’s Armaan and Aryaman (please don’t miss the similarity in the names) never got beyond the ‘chuck’-post. But, if you are from a film family, opportunities are created for you repeatedly. Take Hrithik Roshan, for instance. He made a splendid start with a made-to-order double role. Then the struggle began. Thank God, he was extraordinarily talented. Otherwise, imagine where Hrithik would be!

Today, another star-son Ranbir Kapoor finds himself in the same position as Hrithik. Saawariya got him tremendous notice. Saawariya spawned many ‘towel’ jokes. And, they continue. Last week, Ranbir showed his fans how to dance in a towel without letting it slip off. That is what I call a really worthy social cause. It is strange that a film which didn’t do well created so much renewable interest. In his second film Ranbir and his childhood friend, director Siddharth Anand, sat down to work out a character as far removed from Saawariya as possible.

If Ranbir was a poodle following his object of adoration around so faithfully in Saawariya, he’s a wolf in ‘chic’ clothing, in his second movie If he was an angel earlier, he is a devil now. Women worship wickedness in their partners. That’s the thought that holds Ranbir’s new character together. The more slippery, unreliable and dangerous the man, the more women fall for him.
I can almost see the two friends plotting it out together. And, that’s where the talented actor’s second film goes wrong. You can’t design a film around the actor’s personality to tap his potential. The character must always come first. The star must play the character. Not the other way around. His recently released movie gives Ranbir the chance to do everything that today’s actors are required to. He sings, flirts, frolics, waltzes, gambols. He woos and wows the women and then leaves them. He gets to kiss all his three heroines — a first for lip thirst. Can’t remember when was the last time a hero kissed all his heroines. And, all three kisses are done differently. Maybe Emraan Hashmi should take lessons in lip-locking from Ranbir.

Throughout the marketing of the movie, we had the three sporting ladies cooing, fighting and arguing over Ranbir who just sat in the midst of all the feminine attention like a modern-day Krishna with a trio of gorgeous gopiyan commodifying him as a sex object right in front of Ranbir. Such naked adulation is bound to backfire.

Audiences can take the heroism only up to a point. After that they begin to feel like participants at a paid jamboree to promote wildlife tourism. Ranbir will survive the excess hype and expectations generated by his second film. He’s a supremely skilled actor who knows how to press all the right buttons. But, like a young filmmaker told me, Ranbir needs to be told when to stop. He must realise every shot is not a matter of life and death. His amazing dad Rishi Kapoor did.

But, the good news for Ranbir is that his leading lady and ladylove Deepika Padukone emerges far more strongly in her second film than her first. Ranbir and Deepika started their respective careers on the same Friday. She was sketchily portrayed in her first film. She displays tremendous grace confidence and inner strength in the movie. Deepika is the superstar of tomorrow. So is Ranbir. Acting is not only about glory. It’s also about a graph.

The Bollywood king, but not a Khan!

http://s177.photobucket.com/albums/w218/seeucom/albums/akshay.jpg
With Singh is Kinng netting Rs 29 crore in its first weekend compared to Rs 26 crore for last year’s blockbuster Om Shanti Om, the most successful star in Bollywood need no longer be a Khan, a Bachchan or a Roshan. For over a decade, there seemed to be a smooth transition from Shahenshah Bachchan to Badshah Shahrukh, with an intermittent challenge from Aamir and Hrithik.

If the 1970s and 80s were dominated by Amitabh’s roles of an angry young man called Vijay taking on the system in Deewaar and Agneepath, the last decade has been mostly about the fun guy next door called Rahul getting the girl even if Shahrukh started his career by literally killing her softly with his song in Baazigar or scaring her out of her wits in Darr! The more serious space was occupied by Aamir whose Lagaan was nominated for an Oscar in the category of the best foreign film. And the schoolkids were wowed by Hrithik playing Superman in Krrish.

Now Akshay Kumar has broken into this charmed circle of those who rule Bollywood. Singh is Kinng has proved he can no longer be dismissed as a hero of the front-benchers and whose earthy humour appeals only to the masses — like in director Madhur Bhandarkar’s Aan: Men at Work where police-officer Akshay hurls a cop-killer to his doom from the top of a building and who, when asked where the baddie is, quietly replies “Voh oopar gaya hai” (“He has gone up”)!

The last two years have seen six Akshay superhits grossing Rs 600 crore. It is difficult to typecast him even if his next release Chandni Chowk to China could be the closest to his heart since it tells the story of a bawarchi trying to make it big as a chef in China — Akshay grew up in Delhi and trained in martial arts in Bangkok, supporting himself by working as a cook. Bollywood’s latest superstar has proved that too many cooks needn’t spoil the blockbuster broth!

Shah Rukh Khan- Salman Khan spat spills over to Rani Mukerji’s party

http://movies.indiatimes.com/photo.cms?msid=2376127
The cold war between the two Khans and their respective camps in Bollywood spilt over to the party organized by Rani Mukerji to celebrate a housewarming.

Shah Rukh Khan chose to attend along with Gauri Khan, Karan Johar, Farah Khan and, Farhan Akthar giving him company. Salman Khan chose to skip the party and so did Aamir Khan and Saif Ali Khan. It was clear to every one that the Shah Rukh- Salman spat was the reason for such a situation, as Rani is known to be friendly with all the Khans from Shah Rukh to Salman to Saif and Aamir.

Rani Mukerji has recently moved into a spacious new home, which has been beautified by Sussanne Khan Roshan and Twinkle Khanna in the upscale Juhu neighborhood and had been planning a house-warming party since long. So far, she was finding it difficult to coordinate dates of all her industry friends. But after all that planning, the deep division in Bollywood over the war of the Khans has been a downer at her party.

Those who made it to the party were- SRK, Gauri, Karan Johar, Akshay Kumar and Twinkle, Farah Khan, Farhan Akhtar, Anil and Sunita Kapoor, and Sussanne Roshan.

Katrina scores a double hat trick

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i54/bollywoodbuzz/b2icons/kat-akshay-1.jpg
Katrina Kaif is currently in the US shooting for Kabir Khan's New York for the Yashraj Films banner. Back home the actress has delivered yet another hit, Sinngh is King. And going by the number, Singh is King happens to be Katrina's sixth hit in a row, the earlier ones being Namastey London, Apne, Partner,Welcome, Race and now Singh is King. This is a first in Bollywood.

The news of Singh is Kinng's success has left Katrina absolutely elated. She shared the joy of her success with the cast and crew of Yashraj films. Katrina wishes that she was in here in Mumbai to savour the success of her latest venture. "But the party more than made up for it," she laughs.

Not to forget that Katrina just been selected as the brand ambassador for Nakshatra Diamonds. "Katrina has signed the deal with Nakshatra for a whopping amount," revealed a source.

Katrina's success story has turned every actress green with envy and got their tongues wagging. Indulging in malicious gossip and the crab mentality is the way of the industry that Katrina is well familiar with.

But she is not going to let all the loose talk bog her down and mar her enthusiasm and spirit. "I have worked hard so why shouldn't I enjoy my share of the pie," she smiles.

Freedom Struggle Stories In Bollywood Movies

http://www.businessofcinema.com/boc/images/ajay_devgan1.jpg
Ever thought how it was all around when ears heard only one sound - sound of rebellion. When youth came on the street and walked on undeterred by bullets or batons. When martinets were made to pay for their every harsh move. When a flimsy man with a spinning wheel and a stick stirred the depraved conscience of millions, the picture of the freedom struggle would have always appeared blur in your mind. However, thanks to Bollywood movies, which treasured precious moments of Indian history.

Bollywood always faired well on the ground of patriotism. It has always given its voice to the ideals of the freedom movements. The credit of making movies based on the freedom struggle goes one Stalwarts of Bollywood - Manoj Kumar. His spectacular performance in the movie 'Shaheed' which was released in the year 1965 depicted many shades of Bhagat Singh.t made viewers to shed tears of both joy and sorrow to watch their hero fight valiantly for the mother India and finally dissolving in it. Several years later, Bhagat Singh re visited the silver screen in the movies The Legend of Bhagat Singh and 23rd March 1931 to tell his people again that he did his bit by sacrificing his life so that no one jeopardizes it again.
The movie Rang De Basanti which was released in the air 2006 presented an interesting concoction of two epochs. The story revolved around different individuals and their aspirations. In it an endeavor was made to compare and contrast the lives of the characters to show that they still amongst us and are in the middle of some identity crisis. The movie also threw some light on the falling standards of the youth where the characters were shown guzzling down beer down their throats and forgetting the contribution made by the freedom fighters in their frivolity. These movies also allowed the viewers to pry into the lives of Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil and Ashfaqulla Khan.

The iron willed Mahatma Gandhi was often presented in several movies sporting his trade mark smile and kind demeanor. His portrayal in the movie 'Gandhi' starring 'Ben Kingsley' won plaudits for his impeccable storyline and a resplendent performance given by Ben . He appeared again much after his death to do what he did the best. In the era of freedom struggle he guided India to freedom. Even this time in the movie 'Lage Raho Munna Bhai' he did the same by rescuing some troubled minds including the protagonist's mind's from inner fetters of ego, superstitions etc.

The Competition gets tougher in 'Bollywood Ka Ticket'...

A very disappointed yet cheerful Reshmi told us, “I was mentally prepared for my elimination every week. But I feel sad for my Dada (her partner) as he is a very nice guy. However, I think he needs to work harder to get a place in the professional arena”. Reshmi feels that their elimination was justified as they had been in the danger zone quite number of times and they were never in full swing.

Well, Bollywood Ka Ticket and without controversies?? Just wait as we give you an insight on it!! The ‘expected’ has happened and Twinkle Bajpai and Puneet Israni are back into the show and not surprisingly, they perform on ‘I am the Best’ number and get applauded by the mentors!! On her comeback, Twinkle states, “I am happy to be back that too on public demand. The contestants have also welcomed me in a nice way and have accepted the fact that the public is with me”.

No doubt, happy days are back again for Twinkle, but the same cannot be said for Jai Bhanushali as he was feeling ‘fish out of water’ on being the only Western Sharks contestant remaining with both Karan Patel and Abigael out of the contest! But the most upsetting thing about this week’s episode was that all the three mentors gave Jai the lowest scores despite he being the only celebrity to get a ‘Once More’ cry from the audience!! We called Jai to get his reaction on this and the actor who sounded disturbed said, “Yes I am very upset with the score because I think I performed very well and they gave me 22 marks. I was expecting more than that. I think I will raise my voice against it in the next episode. I think people should watch Shabana Azmi while giving marks. And I am requesting my fans that if I spoke a bit in the next episode, please forgive me as I am forced to speak out!!”

Well, will we see the wipe-out of Western Sharks next week with Jai’s ouster?? Or will there be a twist in the tale???

Can Bollywood make terrorists out of us?

The run up to the 61st Independence day has been quite grim and gory except for the gold that India won at the Olympics.

The serial blasts that shook the nation have cast a pall of terror and have led to suspicion and surveillance of our cityscapes as well as mindscapes.

Doubt your neighbor, doubt your friends, doubt your fellow traveler...and more recently doubt the film you watch.

With Bangalore and Ahmedabad blasts sending terror tremors across the country, suddenly Bollywood and its films depicting terrorism became the talking points.

People and media started looking at fiction with misgivings for inspiring fact. A classic case of trying to establish that reel life inspires real life.

A recent Ram Gopal Verma release, Contract became the focus of this reel-dictating-real debate. The film showed acts of terrorism which had modus operandi similar to what was used in Ahmedabad during the time of the blasts.

These similarities sent the rumor mills running overtime, and the believers in the archaic bullet theories of mass media went motor mouthing about how Bollywood is to be blamed for the recent escalation in terrorism.

This blame game went to the extent that Ram Gopal Verma, the director of Contract had to go public saying "I didn't inspire terrorists," to pro-actively absolve himself of any charges of encouraging terrorism!

While, to lot of us such an apology sounded uncalled for, it perhaps reflected the power that a medium like cinema is invested with, in populist belief.

The power to make things happen in real world, power to influence minds and above all, in this case, power to create terrorists of all things!

Can films make terrorists out of us? Well that's surely an extreme way of putting it. But can films inspire terrorism?

As we celebrate another Independence Day under the shadow of terrorism, in our red alerted cities, it s a question worth asking.

Rahul Dholakia, director of award winning film Parzania based on the Gujarat riots doesn t seem to subscribe to this view.

He opines that films like Contract and Mission Istanbul have nothing to do with acts of terrorism in real life. In an interview to NDTV, Dholakia says, "Terrorists don't wait for films to help them plan and strategize. They have an inner cause to fulfill and that s what guides them."

Mahesh Bhatt, producer of Dhoka, a film that tells the story of suicide bomber, is more vociferous, "Terror is a reflection of our times, and since cinema reflects life, filmmakers are bound to gravitate towards the subject of terrorism. But to conclude that movies contribute to terrorism in the country is to trivialize the whole issue."

Bhatt surely has a point there but filmmaker Sudhir Mishra makes a larger comment about contemporary Indian cinema that adds a whole new perspective to the debate.

Mishra believes that our contemporary formulaic films are simply incapable of investigating a sensitive issue like terrorism in depth since they present a very vigilante notion of justice.

He says that our films end up either demonizing or romanticizing a terrorist. There's never a sane representation. We are always swinging between extremes where as real life doesn't offer any easy heroes or villains.

Guess, Mishra has a point for sure. While we can dismiss a hardliner s view of cinema inspiring terrorism, but it might be tough to contest the charge of Bollywood romanticizing a terrorist if not terrorism.

Except few films like Maachis or Terrorist, most other films like Mission Kashmir, Fiza and Fanaa present a highly romanticized view of a terrorist.

One wonders if this is any different from the larger than life image of an anti-hero that our gangster films have specialized in creating onscreen.

Think of Company, D, Shootout At Lokhandwala or even Sarkar, the gun- toting, dashing killing machine somehow makes being bad look so cool!

The law breaking, weapon-wielding protagonist has all the trappings of a larger than life character. He walks with a swagger, talks in a baritone, is surrounded by sexy women, and has his own code of conduct.

Not just this, he also has a menacing yet very seductive nonchalance about disposing of those who don t fall in line with his code

Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgan and other mainstream stars like Vivek Oberoi have been some of the most popular actors who have essayed the roles of these cool bad guys in recent times.

And if it s not a mainstream superstar playing a terrorist or a gangster, the character takes on completely demonic proportions and becomes a fiend unleashing mindless terror on the world.

As Mishra says there s no sane representation . Our films seem to be mired in superlatives. They don t seem to talk, they only scream.

But to call this scream a clarion call to rouse the terrorists of a country is as much of a hyperbole as our films themselves are guilty of.

Priyanka on the Salman-SRK spat

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/photo.cms?msid=1057636
The recent Salman-Shah Rukh spat may have taken the film industry by storm, but Priyanka Chopra, who has worked with both the actors, isn't ready to take sides. When asked about the incident, the actress predictably tried to be politically correct.

They both are adults. What's the point in commenting when they are the ones who should be talking about it," she said.

Priyanka shares screen space with Salman for the third time in one of the latest Friday releases God Tussi Great Ho with the Amitabh Bachchan for company."I play a journalist who’s very passionate about her channel,” she said while talking about her role in the movie.

And shooting for the film seems to have been one big part for Priyanka.

We would drive around and say let’s shoot here, then go for lunches, etc," she said. God Tussi Great Ho sees Amitabh play god, who transfers his powers to Salman for a week.

With the debacle of Love Story 2050 behind her, Priyanka will be needing some of those powers to make her new film a hit with the masses.

Akshay Kumar takes a break

http://www.topnews.in/files/akshay-kumar_0.jpg
After shooting non-stop for Chandni Chowk to China and Kambakht Ishq and delivering a hit in Singh is Kinng, Bollywood's current flavour Akshay Kumar has packed his bags and left for Monte Carlo for a family holiday.

"I think I've earned my holiday. I was so nervous and tense before the release that I couldn't sleep," said Akshay.

It's been a hectic month for the star. After his big release, he was ready for a holiday with wife Twinkle and son Aarav in Monte Carlo, but the visa didn't materialise. So he left for a weekend in Goa, returned to Mumbai on Monday evening to celebrate the success of Singh is Kinng with producer Vipul Shah and director Anees Bazmi and left the same night for Monte Carlo.

"Every time a release is around the corner, I put the desktop globe in front of my wife and tell her to pick a destination for a holiday. I told my wife that if my new film was a hit, I'll take her to Monte Carlo. If it doesn't work, we'll have to do with Mahabaleshwar," he joked.

The actor saw the film with his son, but the young boy missed the climax of his dad's new blockbuster.

"Aarav never stays up beyond 10.30 p.m. But he watched Singh is Kinng till he could, almost till the end. Then the poor fellow couldn't stay awake. He fell asleep in my lap... doesn't matter. He'll have lots of occasions to catch up with the film later," said Akshay.

The actor has many a reason to be happy and proud. Amitabh Bachchan, whom Akshay has described as the real king of Bollywood, has included the title song of Singh is Kinng in his repertoire for his ongoing Unforgettable concerts.

"I know about Amitji singing the Singh is Kinng song. It happened after the Toronto concert where I was on stage with the Bachchans."

In the 30 years that the mega-star has been performing live, he has never jammed to another actor's song before.

"Really? That's what makes him the real king of Bollywood. All of us who came into the industry after Amitji have a lot to learn from him."

When told about Akshay's praise, Amitabh said: "Akshay is far too generous and kind. His current status is a remarkable lesson in hard work and self-improvement. To have done it under the extremely extenuating circumstances that he has faced is even more creditable."

The Big B confirmed that the Singh is Kinng song is indeed part of his stage repertoire.

"Yes, when I'm jamming with the band on stage during our concerts one of the items I sing is Singh is Kinng. It's great fun."

Bollywood hopes for Diwali on I-Day

http://bloxygen.googlepages.com/aksay3.jpg

Box-office earnings this weekend may be the biggest so far this year

Films released around America’s Independence Day on July 4 usually spell big business in Hollywood. This time, Bollywood is hoping for similar luck during the long weekend starting with I-Day. Till now, film-makers have looked for box-office dhamakas only during Diwali. However, the bumper collections recorded on Independence Day on Friday and the continuing holiday period should help the Indian film industry to emulate its American counterpart —with a huge Independence Day weekend gross this year.

“Box-office earnings this weekend are expected to be the biggest of the year. With Independence Day yesterday and Raksha Bandhan today, people will have ample time to catch the latest films,” says trade analyst Amod Mehra. There isn’t a short supply either. Yash Raj Films is looking to kickstart its floundering fortunes with Bachna Ae Haseeno. It is pitted against Salman Khan-starrer God Tussi Great Ho — the other big release of the week.

Singh is Kinng is expected to continue its good run too. And if the weekend is not enough to catch them all, there is the Parsi New Year holiday on Tuesday as well.
“Both the new films, Bachna… and God Tussi… have got healthy advance booking and will do 100% business for the first three days because of the long weekend. In addition, Singh is Kinng should continue to ride high on its record-breaking collections in the first week,” says spokesperson for the Cinemax chain of theatres, Devang Sampat.

Both the films have their own crowd-pulling factors. With the huge interest in the latest hit pair, onscreen and offscreen, of Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika Padukone and some great music, YRF is expecting Bachna Ae Haseeno will be its turnaround film. On the other hand, God Tussi Great Ho has a heavyweight star cast in Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra.

“Bachna… definitely has an edge. Paid previews on Wednesday night registered house full collections. Even in smaller centres like Vadodara, the film has generated a strong buzz. However, a Salman Khan film cannot be underestimated and God Tussi Great Ho is expected to have as good an opening as Bachna…, if not better,” says Ranjan Singh, GM of sales and marketing, PVR cinemas.

Akshay Kumar is the new King of Bollywood!

http://bloxygen.googlepages.com/aksay23.jpg
If you ever wondered why certain names are not spelt just as your teacher taught you to, then you are amongst many others who pull their hair in frustration when asked by their children why Bigg Bossis spelt the way it is, or why Singh is Kinng, not King? After all which emperor would not know how to spell the simple word, Kinng, oops, King?

Or why Imran is Emraan, Kiran Kirron, Ritesh Ritiesh, Sunil Suniel? Or why Kyunki Saas and not Kyonki Saas, Kkusum and not Kusum?

Himesh Reshammiya has an extra ‘m’ to his surname, with Aap Kaa Surroor‘ spelt like a ballad! The box office fate {HIT!} surprised one and all though.

Kaho Naa Pyaar hai had two extra ‘A’s in it too; Mujhe Kucch Kehan Hai gave Tusshar a debut jubilee hit, Kyaa Kool Hain Hum was a run-away success, Jodhaa Akbar producers made a handsome profit too.

We already know how the Numbers game has fast caught up from leading actors, to film and TV stars and producers, to cricketers and corporate honchos, the common man not left far behind, Numerology has left us all spell bound, thinking whether the way our parents spelt our names is correct or not

So we thought of ‘consulting’ the expert on the magic formula that seems to be working for Akshay Kumar.

Classical dance training helped me in Bollywood: Esha Deol

http://offbeatink.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/esha-deol-tattoo.jpg

Her training in Indian classical dance helped her in the Bollywood film industry rather than hamper her career, says actor Esha Deol.

"It is not a question of maintaining a balance (between classical and Hindi film dances). I think my training in classical dances has actually helped me in all the filmi jhatkas and matkas," the star of such films as Dus, No Entry, Dhoom and Kaal said.

Esha was with her mother Hema Malini and sister Ahana Deol, at the invitation of the Indian Business and Professional Council (IBPC) in Dubai, for a classical dance recital to mark the India's independence day.

Talking about her foray into classical dance, Esha, an Odissi artiste, said that it was her mother who got her into the art. "When I was young, I was always interested in football and stuff like that. But mother always wanted me to learn classical dance," she said.

But her initial attempts to learn Bharatanatyam, the dance form for which her mother Hema Malini is renowned, nearly put her off from classical dances. "When I initially tried Bharatanatyam, I found it very tough. The movements... it was just very tough for me. It was later when I saw Odissi performances by Protima Bedi on TV that I thought that it was more like it for me," Esha said.

Asked whether she felt any pressure when performing along with an acclaimed artiste like her mother, she replied: "Not really. Actually sharing the stage with mother can be very comforting."

All’s fair in love and Bollywood

http://bollywoodbuzz.in/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/randeep.jpg
BOMBAY—However much the duo may deny it fact remains that Deepika and Ranbir have stepped on quite a few hearts in their quest to be together Today they admit that they’re very much in love and started seeing each only on February 23, 2008. But the facts seem to indicate otherwise. In 2007, Deepika’s then boyfriend, Nihar Pandya, threw a fit when he caught them together driving down the Mount Mary Road in suburban Bandra at night.
And though Ranbir never went public with his relationship, fact is that he was seeing Sonam Kapoor, whose heart broke as well when she found out about Deepika. Cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who was then seeing Kim Sharma, broke her heart too, when she discovered loving messages from Deepika Padukone on his phone! So just what was happening in this maze of relationships? Deepika and Ranbir definitely got closer on the sets of Bachna Ae Haseeno in Sydney, Australia. Today Deepika admits, “Ranbir started pursuing me from Sydney.” But she wasn’t quite through with Yuvraj then.
In fact, when the Sydney schedule of the film was complete, Deepika was flying out to be with Yuvraj in Perth, where he was playing a test series. When she was leaving Sydney on an early morning flight after a grueling night of shooting, she went all around the unit saying farewell. The only person missing at the time was Ranbir.
When later questioned about Yuvraj, Deepika denied seeing him totally. But today Yuvraj comes forward to admit, “Well, she was with me and now she’s moved on with another person. I guess it’s her personal choice. We didn’t spend enough time with each other to know if it was going to be a long term thing.”
So when Deepika discovered that Yuvraj wasn’t working for her, she went right back to Ranbir Kapoor. They only admit to going on a lunch date in July 2007 but Deepika insists, “It was purely platonic and nothing else.” Yet, when asked whether it was love at first sight he admits, “We were attracted from day one but love happened gradually.”

Akshay and Katrina in Salman's Dus ka Dum

http://www.katrinanewsonline.com/wp-admin/images/katsal.gif
Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar were invited on Salman Khan's show Dus ka Dum. Luckily, everything went off well. No incident took place which could create further differences between Salman and Akshay. Poor Katrina did not have much to say.

THE SHOOTING of the episode has been done with and Katrina and Akshay Kumar would be seen playing Dus Ka Dum with Salman Khan. The proceedings of the show went on quite smoothly given by the history of the cold vibes between Sallu bhai and Akki.

Salman invited the stars of Singh is King, Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar on his show Dus ka Dum. The duo obliged and a few instances took place, which would further create more differences between Salman and Akshay. Katrina’s combination having on one side, her real life hero and on the other the reel life hero was quite deadly but, in the end, minus a few hiccups the show went quite well.

Salman as usual was making fun of Akki with his trademark wit and sarcasm. Akshay took the taunts and when he felt that it was high time, he started to fire a few on Salman too. He asked Salman that why doesn’t he get married to his beautiful girlfriend Kat. Obviously Salman who prefers to stay quiet and never admitted his relationship with Katrina swallowed it with a smile.

Further Akshay, complimenting Katrina and at the same time coming on hard at Sallu said that Salman has a real nice and wonderful girlfriend in the form of Katrina and that he should take utmost care of her and treat her properly.
Last but, not the least Akshay said that Kats was quite young and gorgeous and Sallu was getting old and that he should give it a thought of getting settled in life as one shouldn’t be alone at this age.

Angry old man, Salman was clearly annoyed by such remarks but still kept his cool. He got back by making cracking jokes at the Khiladi’s expense. Poor Katrina did not have much to say but was clearly shocked by the way Akshay commented on Salman.

Khatron Ke Khiladi, Akshay won Rs 10 lakhs and donated it to a charity. Watch out for this special episode where the two superstars show each other the dum they have.

Bollywood : Salman Khan doesn’t want to be God ever

Salman Khan gets the chance to take God’s place in reel life, in upcoming movie, God Tussi Great Ho, but in real life he does not want that job, ever.

http://www.sawf.org/Newsphotos/Bollywood/SalmanKhan20Sep2007PR.jpg

If given the chance, “ No, I would not take that chance,” he says and adds,” Everyone’s got their job to do. I have got a job as an actor. God has a job to be God.”

If forced to take up that job, he says,” I would not know what to do with it. I will have the power and I would be sitting at home or would be giving a shot in the movie somewhere. It would be a waste.”

Regarding his own faith, Salman had the following words,” I think a lot about God, but in a different way. In my mind, God is the creator, he is everything. He has made us and he lives in our hearts. Love is God. Faith is God. Trust is God. All these nice positive things in life are God. “

He also hopes for a life after death and his wish is that he is reborn with the same family.

Salman: SRK & I will never patch up

http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/2073/high1928511wh7.jpg
Refusing to call it a ‘war’, Salman Khan has nevertheless admitted that he and Shah Rukh Khan do have differences, and they can probably never be friends.

Priyanka and you didn’t get along well during the making of God Tussi Great Ho ...
I am cordial with her.

There is a scene in the film which has been shot in your house, Galaxy Apartments...
Yes, there is one scene in my house, which is shown as Priyanka’s house in the film.

You usually don’t work with debutante directors. How did you agree to do this film with Rumi?
Well, I do make exceptions. I also worked with Shrish Kunder in his first film. I’ve done several films in which Rumi was the writer. I was assured that he will make a good film.

People say you you are the most misunderstood guy in the industry...
I don’t give a damn. I am what I am. That’s the way I am, if you like it, then thank you very much, and well, if you don’t like it, sorry!

What about the war between you and Shah Rukh Khan?
It is totally unfair to label it as a war. We are different individuals and have different perspectives.

Will you tell us what exactly happened at Katrina’s birthday party?
When I have never spoken about Vivek Oberoi, why should I speak about Shah Rukh?

Will SRK and you patch up?
No. Shah Rukh and I will never patch up.

Please go on...
Yeh sab unka problem hai. Agar meri burai mein unko happiness milti hai, who log paisa kamate hai, toh accha hai. Aap meri dhana-dhan phaad rahe ho, aur apni family ko support kar rahe ho... well then, enjoy! (Laughs).

Vivek has publicly apologised to you. Will you forgive him?
Yeh sab drama-shama mere ko samajh mein aata hai. Yeh sab acting hai.

What about John Abraham?
John Abraham? What about him?

How is your experience of interacting with people on the sets of Dus Ka Dum ?
I love it! It’s nice if people are making money through the show. I am also making money. It’s like fulfilling a lot of dreams.

Some people say that the show is not doing well.
You always have these idiots here and there talking rubbish. When their film is about to be released, woh chada-chada ke apni tareef karte hai. Shaurat aur izzat upperwale ke haath mein hai, jisne mujhe shaurat aur izzat di hai, usne mujhe taqat bhi di hai, aur koi meri taqaat mujhse nahih cheen sakta. Fark nahin padta. These people forget that there is one thing above all – the Almighty.

How is the industry supporting your organisation Being Human?
In terms of financial support, well, I have not received a single cheque till date from anybody from the film industry.

Seriously?
Yeah. That’s the reason why I am starting my own clothing line.

You are doing Andaz Apna Apna 2?
Aamir has been talking about it. Let’s see...

Goa is definitely the favourite holiday spot for most Bollywood celebrities. From Esha Deol and Arshad Warsi to Imtiaz Ali and Malaika Arora Khan - they all prefer to hit the golden beaches to unwind.

Esha Deol: Since I'm a total beach bum, Goa is one of the best spots India has to offer me. Lately, however, it's become too commercialised and not so safe. But I'll always have fond memories of my Goan holidays.

Chitrangda Singh: Goa is the Indian Europe. It has great energy.

Raima Sen: I go at least four times a year. I love the seafood, beaches and shacks. I love the chilled-out life there and the friendly vibes of the place. I can comfortably let my hair down.

Minissha Lamba: Goa is among the most easily accessible holiday spots, and one of those places where the beaches are swimmable.

Arbaaz Khan: Goa is definitely my favourite holiday spot. It's chilled out, not much hustle bustle. I love the place, people and food. Being close to Mumbai, it is an ideal vacation spot.

Tusshar Kapoor: I've only been to Goa for shootings. I love the place. The ambience is excellent. I love the water and the warmth of the people. It's the ultimate place to get out of the rat race.

Imtiaz Ali: Goa is big in my life. I go there very often, but still not as often as I'd like. I'd like to live the life of a hippy or a nomad on one of the beaches there. I'd like to just travel around the beaches and villages. Life is not possible for me without Goa. It takes the traffic and the noise out of my blood system.

Rohit Roy: Goa has been my favourite Indian holiday destination from the time I was in college. Earlier I'd go with a bunch of friends. But now it's become a hotspot for family holidays. My wife Manasi and daughter Kiara are as much beach persons as I am! I absolutely adore its chilled-out pace. I love Goan food, prawn curry and rice being my favourites. Oh I love everything about Goa!

Arshad Warsi: I love Goa. The place slows me down. I go there as often as I can.

Malaika Arora: I don't think there's any better place to holiday than Goa. I love it! My husband Arbaaz and I always dreamt of owning a home there. And now our dream is coming true.

Sammir Dattani: Since I am total water person, Goa is the place for me. At least twice a year I take off with a bunch of friends and we never get out of the water.

Tanushree Dutta: Goa is a favourite holiday spot. I manage to go twice a year. What I like best are the little shacks by the beaches and the old-world charm about the place.

Koena Mitra: "Goa is one of my favourite holiday spots. You just can't get bored of Goa. I'm a beach girl and I love Goan seafood. I also love their music and their parties are high-energy. Winter is the right time to go to Goa.

Exclusive: Bollywood Ladies and their 'Toy Boys'

So Bipasha is playing the seductress to a much younger Ranbir Kapoor in their forthcoming film Bachna Ae Haseeno, so what? When the 'age' factor was brought up more than a sensible number of times, our Bengali beauty lost it.

Recently she made her thoughts quite public about how 'SHE' feels about the entire age issue. Well, if there's someone as sexy as Bips, we don't really care about her age, now do we?

And if she happens to be kilojoules hotter than real life girlfriend Deepika, it's not really Ranbir's fault that the director would want Bips to be the seductress rather than Deepika.

We also heard recently about the silent war between Deepika and Bipasha over (of course) Ranbir. But the girl should probably understand that if she can romance SRK, Bips can seduce Ranbir too…

And moreover, Bips is happy having a hotter than the oven boyfriend John Abraham, Ranbir for her is just… let's see a 'toy boy'?

Akshay refuses to compare 'Singh is Kinng' with 'Om Shanti Om'

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has refused to draw comparisons of the first week box office collections of his latest success "Singh is Kinng" with that of Shah Rukh Khan's 2007 film "Om Shanti Om".

"It is wrong to compare the success of the two films. The Hindi film industry is one big market. Whatever money earned from the movies made goes into one kitty ... the film industry. Every one benefits out of successful films. Actors' fees also goes up," the actor told reporters last night at the function organised to celebrate the success of the film.

"Singh is Kinng" opening weekend gross ticket sales are a massive Rs 59.5 crore worldwide, he said.

Speaking about the trend of deciding the fate of a film in the opening week itself, Akshay said multiplexes have changed the business of cinema in recent years. "In an area like Juhu in suburban Mumbai, there are 28 shows of the film in one multiplex alone. Due to this, 80 to 90 per cent money is recovered by the producer," he said.

The actor agreed that the second week is the deciding factor of the film's fate in the long run. "It is quite natural that the collections slump at the start of the second week. Everything depends on how steep is the decline in box office collections. If the steep is less, the film is sure to bounce back during the weekend," he added.

When asked what worked in favour of the film, Akshay said that it was for the first time all the principal characters in the film were sikhs, the title of the film was catchy and it spoke about positive attitude to succeed in life.

To a question on whether he saw himself as the new "king" of Bollywood, Akshay replied in negative. "I have been around for only 15-16 years. To become a king, one has to have a long span of good work. I may call myself, if I survive for another 15 years," he added.

Akshay said Abhinav Bindra, who became the first Indian to win an individual gold medal in Olympics was the real 'king'.

To a question on the film industry being divided into different camps and the reported fight between Salman Khan and Shah Rukh, Akshay Kumar said he saw no reason why he should interfere in others' affairs.

"They are adults and since they are said to have fought they would patch up eventually. who am I to interfere. The film industry is undergoing a change in the last five years. Bigger films with huge budgets are made. Profits made by any film helps the industry to grow. Dividing the industry into camps is not fair," he added.

Akshay said he was taking a short break with his family before resuming shooting for his pending projects. "I have not had a holiday for the last four months," he added.

He lauded co-star Katrina Kaif for her success. He said, "four years ago, she came to Mumbai from London to make it big in Hindi films. She did not know a word of Hindi. But she learnt it and is continuously improving her accent and diction. Whatever she has achieved is commendable," he added.

Producer Vipul Shah said, 'Singh is Kinng' has shattered all previous opening weekend box office records. Indian Films has given the movie the widest ever release worldwide. "It released with 1,350 prints across 1,800 screens.

"The film has received excellent response in Delhi,UP, Rajasthan, Punjab, UK, Canada, USA and even Pakistan. Shows start as early as 7 am with the last show in Pakistan being conducted at 1 am, all to packed houses. In Mumbai, some multiplexes are running 28 shows a day to occupancy of 95 per cent," he added.

The film starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, is backed by The Indian Film Company (IFC), which owns the worldwide distribution rights and was released to 1,700 screens across India, USA, Canada, UAE and the UK. Its success in the UK propelled it to 7th position in the UK TOP 10, an index which includes the latest Hollywood releases.

IFC may have also broken another record by selling the film's music rights to Junglee Music, a division of the Times of India Group for a limited period in a £1.32m deal. This is thought to be a record breaking valuation for a film soundtrack in India.

Sandeep Bhargava, chief executive of the Investment Adviser to IFC, said: "We are delighted that Singh is Kinng has had a fantastic opening weekend. There was a great deal of interest in the film prior to its release and we are optimistic that the film will continue to achieve excellent box office returns over the course of the next few weeks.

"The success of Singh is Kinng underlines the ability of the IFC team to invest in quality productions and maximise revenues through extended distribution in order to create significant investor value."
